Mr. Greg Kallen

Gregory M. Kallen has been practicing law in Southwest Virginia since the early 1980s. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary, Greg started out his legal career doing analysis of Supreme Court decisions for the University of Maryland, combining his undergraduate degree in history with his background in Constitutional law, where he won the Am Jur award for outstanding performance in his Constitutional law class.

Kallen moved to Southwest Virginia in 1984 to began work as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney. His career as a prosecutor continued for over 15 years, serving as Assistant Commonwealth’s attorney in Wise and Dickenson Counties, after which he was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney for Wise County and the City of Norton. His practice was not confined to prosecution, as he also served as lawyer for the Wise County Department of Social Services, and town Attorney for St. Paul, Appalachia, Pennington Gap, and Clintwood at various times.

Since 2000, he has concentrated on criminal defense, and has practiced extensively in state and federal courts, including several capital cases. He has been admitted to practice in the Western District of Virginia, the Eastern District of Tennessee and the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition, Greg also practices family law, and personal injury law. He was appointed to the Virginia State Board of Corrections for seven years, and has been an Adjunct Faculty member at Mountain Empire Community College and the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

In September 2020, he married Laurie Buchwald of Radford and subsequently moved his practice to 325 W. Main St where he has been practicing since April of 2021. When not engaged in the legal profession, he enjoys sports, theater, playing poker, and spending time with his grandson and all of his family.

Mr. Kallen is ably assisted by his paralegal, Kim Parsons. Kim is a graduate of the paralegal program at Mountain Empire Community College, and has been with Mr. Kallen since 2001. She usually works remotely, but is very popular with clients, known for her friendly demeanor and is an outstanding paralegal.
